HP Mini 210 in two new colours

HP Mini 210 which was previously available in matte black with pattern, matte white with pattern, sonoma red, pacific blue and solid black, added two more color variants to boost up it’s attractions. HP Mini 210 will be available in two more colors – preppy pink and white crystal starting from June 15th, 2010.

Price of the new HP Mini 210 will be around $354.99.

HP Mini 110 with integrated 6 cell battery

To boost up the battery life, HP has modified HP Mini 110’s battery and added an integrated 6 cell battery which can give a battery life of 8 hours.

New HP Mini 110 will be available for a price of $279.99.

After the initial success of Intel Atom based netbooks, Intel is planning to develop Dual core Atom processors. Intel is already in the process of launching dual core Atom processors in this quarter. These dual core chips will be used for netbooks as well as small desktops.

Currently 1.66 GHz is the frequency of the fastest Atom processor used in netbooks (or are there any other?). With the introduction of dual core chips, netbooks will perform faster, which will interest many more prospective netbook buyers for sure.

Netbooks were originally made for just ‘NET’, but certainly they are already used beyond just web surfing and emailing. Who will not be interested in a tiny notebook? Comfortable to carry around at more power backup?

Analysis

You notice that Asus Eee PC doesn’t come with a super special feature list. Rather it’s a very basic Eee PC model aimed at someone who is bothered about carrying a bigger heavier netbook, but just want something very basic to meet his/her need. Also, it can be a very good model for teenagers / school goers.

What’s your take on Asus Eee PC 900 AX?

Asus’s Eee range of PC’s has already given a big boost to Asus revenue figures and they have now ventured to compete with another giant – Apple through their Eee Pad.

As per Asus CEO, Eee Pad will run Microsoft software in the first phase and expecting to launch it in coming June. This makes a feel that the Eee Pad could be running an Intel hardware too.

What an iPad has which an Eee PC don’t? Basically you need to ask the other way. An Eee PC can do much more than just an iPad (or they don’t?). What makes iPad unique is the power of it’s OS on a tablet. What if Asus can do similar things which it does on a Eee PC into an Eee Pad? Remember the Eee Keyboard here..

I am certainly looking forward for the full fledged Eee PC in an Eee Pad – running Windows 7 on Intel hardware – Only that can give a tough competition to Apple’s iPad.

What’s your take on this?

I had a glimpse of Dell Inspiron Mini 12 when I was at the shop to buy my Asus Eee PC 1000HE , it wasn’t using the full space for the keyboard, but yes, it had a 12” display with the same computing power as that of a 10” Netbook.

By the way, Netbooks need not be so big. They are portable devices doesn’t weigh much and easy to carry. As the screen size goes up, we are loosing this factor. Many of my friends asked me, why I did buy a Netbook? I could have gone for a Notebook for nearly same price , with more computing power. I said compactness with my Asus Eee PC 1000HE with great battery life, something which isn’t available on a 15” Notebook! So a 12” Netbook was a good choice here over a Notebook?

The reason why Dell decided to discontinue are due to some more reasons apart from the (low)demand it received. Intel isn’t in much favour of 12” Netbooks since it affects the sales of its dual core enabled notebooks. People who might have bought 13 or 14 inch dual core systems might go for 12” Netbooks with Atom processor.

Well, for a Netbook I feel 10 inch screen is good enough, if you are looking for better screen size, go for a Notebook with better computing power. That’s my 2 cents.

Well, there is a lot of good points to buy Asus Eee PC 1000HE ,

• It gives a very good battery back up time. I am getting over 7 hours with WiFi (the rating is 9.5 hrs without WiFi / BT, and on power saving mode.) So its still ‘all day computing’ for me as advertised by them!
• It has a quite large keyboard. I am not a kid, and have normal fingers as much the size of a grown adult. I can type without much trouble on my 1000HE.
• 10” display. I never felt the the screen size isn’t big enough for my work.
• 1.45 Kg weight. I could carry it effortlessly when I travelled in the weekend. You dont feel you are carrying a PC.
• Wireless N support. I am yet to make use of it, but 1000HE is ready for a much advanced wireless network of speeds upto 300 Mbps than the Wireless G with 54 Mbps
• Pre Installed software.

Asus Eee PC 1000HE ith some pre installed software, that you can use your Netbook straightaway after getting out of the shop. 1000HE comes with Windows XP OS, the familiar operating system for many people around the world. You need not have to waste your time on an unfamiliar Linux OS, unless you are really a Linux Geek..

• Eee Storage: This utility allows you to store your files online and retrieve them whenever you need. Asus gives about 10GB of online storage free for a limited period of time.
• InterVideo WinDVD – Though there isn’t any optical drive for 1000HE, you can play your movie files using this program.
• Skype : Make and receive calls through pre installed skype on your Asus EeePC 1000HE. You can also call US/UK toll free numbers from around the world using Skype!
• Star Office: If you are familiar with OpenOffice, star office wont be any different for you. Star office can be used to view/edit your Microsoft Office file formats too. You need not spend another buck for a costly Microsoft Office license when you have Star Office.
• Windows Live: Windows Live is a set of free software from Microsoft for your Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Windows Live comes with Mssenger, Writer, Mail, Photo Gallery and Call. Windows Live mail can be configured to send and receive mail through a POP account such as GMail, Yahoo Plus and Windows Live Mail such as your hotmail account. Windows Live writer is handy if you a blogger. I am on Windows Live Writer, composing this post! Messenger is your usual Windows Live Messenger.
